THE KP Mango Competition has come to a close for yet another year and there certainly wasn’t a shortage of big mangoes provided by farmers in the region.

The 2018/19 competition saw 17 nominations placed, with all but one recording weights heavier than a kilogram.

Despite the number of impressive nominations, there were only three that could receive the cash prizes that were part of the competition.

First place belongs to Kiara Cabassi, whose whopping nomination of 1.878kg just beat that of Liam and Sienna’s 1.846kg mango – while third place goes to Gemma Westwood whose mango weighed in at 1.616kg.

Kiara Cabassi’s win means she will receive the first place prize of $500, while second and third place will receive $300 and $200 respectively.

The annual competition is run each year in conjunction with The Express and FNQ Growers and is sponsored by Lindsay Transport and Lindsay Rural.
