Byrnes Street upgrade nearing completion
Byrnes Street upgrade nearing completion with the existing roundabout being replaced by traffic lights.
Local roadworks have gone up a gear across the shire with major roadworks currently taking place between Mareeba and Cairns and also in Mareeba CBD.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is currently in the middle of a $3.47 million project to upgrade the intersection of Mareeba-Dimbulah Road (known locally as Byrnes Street) and Rankin Street, Mareeba.
The existing roundabout is currently being replaced by traffic lights.
Work started in February 2020 and is expected to be completed by end of May 2020, weather permitting.
According to the Member for Cook Cynthia Lui “An average of 13 direct jobs will be supported over the life of this project.”
