Counting continued this morning for the new Mareeba Shire Council (MSC).

The counting continued this morning for the Mayors job between Councillors Edward "Nipper" Brown and Angela Toppin.

While not quite ready to claim victory Angela Toppin sounded positive on social media this morning writing:

"I have been contacted by a lot of people with well wishes, congratulations and prayers this morning. I am humbled by so much support.

However as I went to bed last night, 40% of the vote was still to be counted. Counting has resumed this morning at 10 am and I am waiting to hear the outcome.

I thank you for your belief and support and we will know more as the day progresses."

Opposition contender Edward "Nipper Brown" sounded less positive this morning posting:

"It has been a humbling experience and a huge honour to represent the Mareeba Shire for the past 6 years.

Thanks to all for your support over the last couple of months. I want to take this opportunity to especially thank my wife and family for allowing me to do it and be absent a lot of the time."

At the time of publishing the vote split for mayor was:

Angela Toppin 55.06%

Nipper Brown 44.94%

With Councillors positions the top six stands at:

Mary Graham - 11.88%

Locky Bensted - 11.55%

Lenore Wyatt - 10.96%

Kevin Davies - 10.64%

Danny Bird - 9.73%

Mario Mlikota - 8.66%
