New recruits join Tablelands police.
With crime still one of the top concerns for residents on the Tablelands, Patrol Group Inspector of the Tablelands Patrol Group Rusell Rhodes was proud to announce the addition of two new recruits.
“From 2011 to 2018, I was the manager of the Far North Queensland Police Academy in Townsville so it’s great to see recruits joining us here in the Tablelands patrol group,” he said
“One of the new officers will be stationed in Mareeba and the other in Atherton and once they have completed their 12 months of training they will be deployed across the Far North District.”
First-year constable Liam Scharz was born and bred in Brisbane and said he is enjoying the change of pace of living on the Tablelands.
“I’m living here now and I’m really liking it.’ he said
“It’s a different kind of work here compared to the big cities and a different kind of lifestyle which suits me.”
First-year Constable Jake Peno was born in Charters Towers and said he enjoys being out and about.
“I like the lifestyle of being a country police officer, I’m more use to the country life”
The officers have been fast-tracked through the academy due to COVID-19, graduating four weeks early. Their graduation ceremony was a private affair due to social distancing, so instead, their recognition of employment ceremony took place at the Tablelands Patrol group headquarters in Mareeba.
