THE corner of Mason and Rankin Street was the scene of a two-vehicle crash that left one of the vehicles involved in the accident upside down against a power pole.

Acting Sergeant Boyd Ellem said investigations are continuing to determine the cause of the incident.

“There was a single occupant in the blue ranger, and he remained in the vehicle for a period of time until he was extricated,” he said.

“He has now been flown to Cairns for observations – there doesn’t seem to be any life-threatening injuries; however observations are being undertaken as he was upside down for an extended period of time.

“The other driver has been taken to the Mareeba Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries for observations and checks.”

Acting Sergeant Ellem said he couldn’t provide a timeframe as it relates to determining the cause of the crash.

“We do have witnesses that we’re following up with, but at the moment we’ll be here at the scene for a couple of hours to extricate the vehicles involved from the current location.

“We’re hoping to get a clearer picture in the next week as to how it occurred.”

Acting Sergeant Ellem said the road will be blocked off for a period of time while emergency services clear the scene.
