MAREEBA’S Arnold Park is set to become a buzzing hive of cultural delights as the Mareeba Multicultural Festival prepares for its first event in over a year bringing together a host of culture and heritage.

Taking place on Saturday, August 28, the festival is a celebration of culture, heritage and of course food all for tourists and locals to enjoy.

Like many other events during the year the Mareeba Multicultural Festival has been forced to enforce COVID safe rules and regulations.

The festival has been shortened this year set to run from 10am to 4pm on the day to better fit within COVID restrictions and regulations.

Arnold Park will be fenced off this year to create one entry point for the festival, ensuring that they will be able to appropriately keep track of people entering the festival.

Mareeba Multicultural Festival president Jennifer Murat said that preparation for the festival has been progressing well and stall holders and performers alike are excited to be back.

“We are making contact with our previous performers and stall holders and they are all excited to be coming back,” she said.

“100 percent we are excited to be able to welcome people back to the festival this year.

“The Mareeba Shire Council has been wonderful in supporting the festival as well as the wider community as always.”

Cook MP Cynthia Lui also passed on her congratulations to the Mareeba Multicultural Festival for securing some additional funding under the 2020-21 multicultural events funding round.

“This funding is used to promote intercultural connections and inclusion and will build capacity to promote and celebrate the benefits of multiculturalism, supporting inclusive, harmonious and united communities,” Ms Lui explained.

“Be sure to add this year’s Mareeba Multicultural Festival to your calendar.”
