A TABLELANDS not-for-profit organisation has put the call out for support as it attempts to raise funds for a new building it says will change the lives of disabled persons and those living with mental health issues.

Having identified limited accommodation options for people living with a disability in the region, Tableland Community Link (TAC) decided it needed to find a suitable solution and thus believes its GAP project is the answer.

Under its proposal the new facility would be constructed on its already existent Grove Street premise and consist of five, two-bedroom units and 10-one bedroom units.

To make the project a reality however, TAC has estimated the project will cost around $3.7-4M which accounts for approximates around Council or State Government authority fees, architect, town planner and certifier charges and the cost of the actual build.

“Our focus is to provide accessible housing for anyone who needs it,” centre manager Carrie De Brueys explained. “The need for suitable, accessible housing is critical and the establishment of this accommodation building would go a long way to helping that.

“We welcome any assistance from any persons or groups that are kind enough to donate.

“This will be a very costly exercise; but the impact to our local community, the national economy and job creation alone makes it worthwhile; particularly at such an important time in history when stimulus of economy is crucial to Australia’s recovery following COVID.”

TAC hopes to have the facility built, if possible, by some time next year. Anyone who wants to make a contribution can do so by visiting tclink.org.au and clicking the donate tab on the top righthand side of the home page.
