Dimbulah locals are being encouraged to ‘step up to clean up’ for Clean Up Australia Day this Sunday, March 7.

Clean Up Australia Day is held annually across Australia where schools, businesses, communities and individuals do what they can and help clean up their town, business or school.

Organizer of the Dimbulah step up to clean up event Tara McGrath said that she started this event last year after seeing the rubbish littered around Dimbulah.

“Once I signed up, I noticed around town there was a lot of rubbish, especially coming into town from people throwing it out of their car,” she said.

“I thought we need to create some awareness in the town to get people involved and help clean it up.

“We picked up four ute loads of rubbish last year.”

Everyone who nominates on the day will get special biodegradable bags to put the rubbish in along with gloves and a small pack with some food and water for the day.

Registration for the event starts at 6:30am at the Dimbulah Community Centre, the event is set to start at 7am and will run until it gets too hot.
