Mareeba Shire Council has moved to bring in a three-tiered fee system for the community hub to encourage more community groups to use the facility.

The three types of fees replace a $600 flat fee for a full day hire of the centre.

For NFPs or organisations that offer events or activities that “deliver widespread community benefit”, the fee has bene sliced from $600 a day to just $100 a day.

To take advantage of the reduced fees, groups must rely heavily on volunteer labour, community fundraising, membership fees and donations; do not receive State or Federal Government operational grants or operates a fee for service model; are a religious group holding an activity/ event for which no entry fee is charged and is open to the general public including gatherings for worship; or is a government funded NFP community service operating an activity or event outside the scope of its funding agreement.

A concessional fee of $300 a day will apply to events or activities with “considerable community benefits”, but with some limited commerciality regarding the hirer, or the event or activity.

For commercial activities, the $600 a day fee will remain.
