Iconic hotel set to celebrate in style
IT’S fair to say the first thing that locals and tourists associate with Malanda is the iconic ‘big pub’.
IT’S fair to say the first thing that locals and tourists associate with Malanda is the iconic ‘big pub’.
For more than 100 years the towering and ageless building has proudly watched over the proud Tablelands town and on the eve of its 110th birthday the iconic structure shows no signs of slowing down just yet.
The pub was built in 1911 and is owned by the English family.
“There’s many reasons why the hotel continues to have so much appeal,” hotel manager Sharon Graham said.
“It has amazing character; it has a friendly feel and it’s full of history.
“The pub is as original as it can be and is filled with an array of memorabilia that reflects on its history.”
The pub plans to celebrate the venue’s birthday in style over the next few days.
Discotechnics will play at the front bar on Friday night followed by a dinner dance the following evening from 6.30pm.
