MAKING the jump from law to fitness is not one often seen in the working world, but one Mareeba local has made it work, going from a successful law firm owner to a thriving fitness app founder.

Pietro Girgenti worked in Mareeba for 10 years after founding Girgenti Lawyers where he eventually expanded into Cairns then onto the southeastern corner in Brisbane where he sold it off mid-2019.

Now Mr Girgenti could fully focus on his new Fitii Personal Trainer app which he ended up launching about a year later in November 2019.

Mr Girgenti said that throughout his career in law he loved to provide passionate people with the tools to succeed and he found none more passionate than those in the fitness industry.

“In the law firm the one part that I absolutely loved above all else was helping people who were really passionate about their craft, helping them succeed and being their support/guidance,” he said.

“We had a lot of clients in the fitness space so we spoke with and worked with them, it is an industry where people are super passionate about the craft that they have.

“Giving them the tools to concentrate on their business while we help grow it from a different side of things is really what inspired us.”

The Fitii Personal Trainer app takes the hassle and anxiety out of looking for classes or trainers nearby, compiling a list of providers near you and giving you the easiest way to book.

“We call it E-Harmony meets Uber in that you can find trainers or classes near you and you get to look at the profiles of the service providers and what they’re offering,” Mr Girgenti said.

“It’s not Tinder because we want them to hang around longer than a night so it’s about pairing people up and once their paired up creating a seamless transaction.

“It is intimidating trying to engage in fitness services, in our market research we’ve spoken to so many consumers who didn’t know where to start or tried to reach out to trainers and never heard back.”

Now nearly a year on from launching his app Mr Girgenti now has trainers in every single state and territory bar Tasmania.

“We’re really happy and we’re constantly trying to iterate and innovate,” Mr Girgenti said.

“This is our version one and we’ve got some huge things in the pipeline we are pretty excited about.

“Mareeba products go all over the country already, most of it is in the ag sector, but let’s bring technology onto that list as well.”

The Fitii Personal Trainer app is available to download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple Store.
