MORE parking spaces in Mareeba's CBD have been made available after works were completed on the new Railway Avenue Carpark, almost doubling the current parking capacity.

The new parking precinct has a free eight-hour limit, giving those who work in the CBD more convenient options for parking in town.

The new car park area also includes solar lighting which will remain on during the night making the area more visible and safer for residents.

Mayor Toppin thanked the community and business for the patience and cooperation while the works were being carried out.

"This project is a welcome addition to the Mareeba CBD and will ease the parking woes for those working in town," she said.

In addition to the 61 car spaces available, the carpark can also accommodate 18 RV vehicles and six motorcycles.

"We are an RV friendly Shire and the additional RV parking spaces will heavily utilised and appreciated by visitors travelling through the town that wish to stop and have a look around," Cr Toppin said.

Council resumed monitoring of regulated parking in Byrnes Street last Friday
