The damage to a number of remote roads was caused by Tropical Cyclone Niran and an associated low pressure system back in late February and early March 2021.

Council approved four tenders for the repair work at its last meeting of 2021, with the tenders valued at $10.8 million and all subject to the final approval of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.

Gregg Construction was awarded the tender valued at $4.9 million for the Western Roads Package which includes roads west of Chillagoe, and the Dimbulah Roads Package valued at $1.92 million.

Keltone Construction was awarded the Eastern Road Package with a tender of $1 million, while Durack Civil was awarded the Mid-Western Roads Package job with a tender of $2.97 million.
