Lumsden to light up Dimbulah
THE Dimbulah Memorial Hall will host one of the country’s most respected country artists this Saturday as multi-award winning artist Fanny Lumsden will perform as part of her Country Halls Tour.
THE Dimbulah Memorial Hall will host one of the country’s most respected country artists this Saturday as multi-award winning artist Fanny Lumsden will perform as part of her Country Halls Tour.
Dimbulah will be one of 34 shows that Fanny will be headlining over the next seven months as part of the tour, and it provides community members an opportunity to see top-class live original music.
It’s also a chance to inject some money back into the community, with funds raised going back into the Dimbulah Memorial Hall.
For those who don’t know too much about Fanny, she boasts an impressive resume which includes an extensive list of accomplishments which spans years.
Some of her most notable achievements include two ARIA nominations, two CMAA Golden Guitar Awards, a CMC Award and the AIR Best Independent Album of 2018 for her second record Real Class Act; of which debuted at number one on the Country ARIA charts in 2017 – making it the only independent to do so that year.
Fanny, who started the Country Halls Tour in 2012, said her inspiration was one borne out of giving back to the community.
“There was never a big business plan attached – I initially began the Country Halls Tour to raise some money for BLAZEAID, an organisation building fences for farmers after signifi cant fl ood events,” she said.
“Also, it was a chance to give back to the community, I am from Western New South Wales originally and I wanted to bring live music to places that don’t traditionally get the chance to hear it.”
Fanny said she didn’t expect the Country Halls Tour to turn into the overwhelming success it is today.
“I thought it would be a oneoff event – I had no idea it would turn into a career defining tour for me,” she said.
“I’m especially excited to come back to Far North Queensland and Dimbulah specifically, I have performed there twice before and there’s definitely a passion for country music in that part of the country.”
Fanny described her music as a version of country folk.
“While it will be a great night for country music enthusiasts, I encourage people of all music tastes to come down for a family friendly and fun show,” she said.
“We have two local acts (Jacynta'lee and sister duo Jolene and Justene Ross) preceding my performance so I’m really excited to see how they perform in front of their friends and family.”
