Douglas aquatic park promised

A SAFE year-round swimming facility is on the way for Douglas residents as the Morrison Government is investing $5 million to deliver the Port Douglas Aquatic Park.

The park will include an all-access pool and a contemporary zero depth nature water play area and will be delivered in partnership with the Douglas Shire Council.

Over 200 jobs will be created during the construction phase and a continual 30 jobs once the park is completed.

Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch said the delivery of the new aquatic park was sorely needed by the Douglas community.

“This is a much-needed project for the Port Douglas area with the only pool available to the public closing in late 2019,” he said.

“The lack of a safe, year-round swimming facility has certainly had negative impacts on the community and tourists who visit the area.

“This project, once completed, will certainly improve the liveability of locals and provide a safe swimming space for visitors to the region.”
