Tropical Cyclone Ann expected to cross coast tomorrow
The far north Queensland coast is expected to be hit by a late-season tropical cyclone, with Tropical Cyclone Ann predicted to make landfall on Wednesday.
Tropical Cyclone Ann has been downgraded to a category one system and could possibly become a tropical low by the time it hits the mainland.
Nonetheless precautions have been put in place by local governments and the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), with gusts up to 100km/h a possibility.
A flood watch has been issued for coastal areas from Cooktown to Ingham where areas of heavy rain may produce flash floods.
Storm tides also pose a threat from Lockhart River down to Cooktown as the cyclone approaches.
If it crosses the coast tomorrow as a category one system, it will mark the first May cyclone far north Queensland has had in 30 years.
