Mareeba’s main street has continued to cause issues for locals and travellers alike including a recent couple in a caravan as one of the wombat crossings caused their caravan to unhook earlier today.

The couple who lives in Townsville were staying with their daughter in Mt Molloy after travelling across the north.

In their travels they haven’t come across a single problem with their caravan unhooking itself until travelling through Mareeba’s Byrnes Street.

“We just went over it (the crossing) and the caravan came loose, we hit the crossing as we went over,” they said.

As their vehicle crossed the join between it and the caravan sunk, hitting the crossing and causing the caravan to unhook.

“We haven’t had any issues anywhere else, we’ve just been up to Barkly, Darwin, Karumba, Normanton and we haven’t had any trouble,” they said.

“This is the one place we have.”
