MAREEBA State High School students and their family and friends converged on the Mareeba International Club last Tuesday to recognise those students who have exemplified academic excellence in 2019.

There were plenty of outstanding academic achievers who were recognised on the night; however it was Hannah MacLeod, Dailin Joshua and Alexis Ford who scored arguablythe most prestigious awards on the night.

Hannah MacLeod continued her exceptional final year of schooling as she followed up her Senior Sportsperson of the Year award at the Sports Presentation Night a week prior to take home the Senior Dux award.

Dailin Joshua was named Junior Dux while Alexis Ford was recognised with the Caltex All-rounder award.

MSHS Principal Scott Whybird commended the students for their commitment to their academics throughout 2019.

“It’s the last year of the current OP syllabus, so it’s going to be interesting to see how the students go when the results come out,” he said.

“This year is a smaller cohort, and while it’s been somewhat of a challenging year for the Year 12s, they’ve done very well.

“They’re a great group of kids, and that’s the wonderful thing about living in Mareeba, they definitely step up to the mark and I couldn’t be prouder of their achievements throughout the year.”
