THE 22nd annual Christmas in July celebrations are set to explode onto Davies Park, Mareeba this Thursday until Sunday July 28.

The popular event, hosted by the Far North Nomads chapter, welcomes all those who travel away from winter’s cold bite in the south. Hundreds of motorhomes and grey nomads from across Australia make the pilgrimage to Mareeba each year.

There will be live entertainment, raffles, novelty events, markets and a special Christmas dinner held under the night sky.

First time event organisers Maureen and Des Lane hope to see lots of locals through the gate.

“We’re expecting upwards of 240 motorhomes to come in from all over Australia,” she said.

“We want to keep it in Mareeba for what it brings for Mareeba.

“People from all around Australia tell us how they look forward to Christmas in July.”

“It’ll be a fun day,” Maureen said.

Funds raised from Christmas in July will go to the Mayors Christmas Appeal and to supporting local organisations.

An open day for the public will be held on Sunday July 28 from 9am to 3pm where a gold coin donation taken at the gate will go to supporting local charities.

There will be market stalls, food stalls and motorhome displays available.

For more information contact Maureen Lane on 0419 029 369.
