On Saturday, September 12, The Tablelands Police Golf Association held their annual Cops and Robbers golf day at the Atherton Golf course.

The Cops and Robbers golf day had been running since 2011 and was started as a way to play golf and raise funds for Police Legacy at the same time.

The event has grown from just a few players to nearly 200 players in the yearly event.

Organiser and Atherton police Sergeant Greg Lee said it started off as a small charity golf day hoping to raise funds for Police legacy.

“We donate money to Police legacy as well as other charities such as Angel Flight, the Yungaburra Lions, Blue Care and locals and families in need,” he said.

Greg said that proceeds from the day stayed in the community “This year proceeds went to Police Legacy and we also donated back to the Atherton golf club as they always put their hand up to help local charity organisations and this year they have been hurting due to COVID,”

“We had a mixture of 192 players from local police and community members, playing in our four-ball ambrose event.”

At last count, Greg said they had raised over 24,000 dollars. “We want to thank all our sponsors and players especially the players who come back year after year as well as Jasmin Chapman who provided entertainment on the day.”

Greg said the highlight of the day was the buggy auction.  “Auctioneer Brendan Williams from First National Real Estate Atherton did a fantastic job by auctioning the Atherton Golf Club’s 15 hire carts for a phenomenal total of $6200,” he said

“We are also looking for the owner of a club that ended up in the lake, I hear it ended up in the lake by accident and not out of frustration.”

The winners of the gross event were Dave Hazlett, Peter Steventon, Mark Broadley and Des Riggs.  Nett winners were Joel Nagy, Brad Fleming, Steve Bakss and Greg Lee.
