EMERGENCY personnel, local politicians and community organisation members gathered at the Mareeba Police Station last week to unveil the new District District Management Plan.

The plan’s aim is to provide an effective disaster management plan in the district, and is endorsed by the District Disaster Management Group (DDMG).

In addition, the plan is designed to ensure that necessary strategies are in place for disaster management regarding all hazards that are identified as potentially harmful – including significant losses that impact the community physically, psychologically and economically.

Tablelands Patrol Group Inspector Russell Rhodes is confident the plan is going to be extremely effective.

“Our group in the past had a much greater area that we had to cover,” he said.

“Now with a much smaller operating area, it enables us to focus more on the issues that are impacting our district directly.

“The DDMG is one made up of a number of capable individuals, and it’s fantastic to see their hard work going towards providing such an effective plan for this district.

“It’s something that is inherently crucial to the region and I hope to see it around for a long time.”

The plan has been prepared by a planning committee comprised of representatives from the various agencies that will have significant roles in disaster management operations.
