Fifteen apprentices, five of which are local boys have begun their careers with Ergon Energy at their training facilities in Cairns

Jett Fittock, Darcy Gillespie and Michael Hooper have all begun their initial training in Cairns as a part of a recruiting drive where Ergon and Energex hired 102 new apprentices across Queensland.

Daniel Davidson from Mossman and Brendan Day from Georgetown were also hired and will be returning to their home depots after training in Cairns is finished.

27 women across the state have also begun apprenticeships with Ergon and Energex this year.

Regional Field Manager Chris Hooper said it was great to see more female apprentices joining a male-dominated industry.

“Ergon offers excellent training and there are so many different things you can do in your career,” he said

“One of the most rewarding things you can do is help restore the power to a community after a natural disaster.”
