THE Mareeba Men’s Shed will now have money to go towards much-needed tools and machinery thanks to the generosity of five local businesses.

Cairns Hardware, Claude Caters Mensland, Tablelands Earthmoving and Raw Materials, Mareeba Sheds and Gas and the Mareeba Leagues Club kindly sponsored the Mareeba Men’s Shed to help them financially cater for their growing membership.

Each business allocated $550 as part of the sponsorship, and in doing so went into a draw to win two flights to any capital city in Australia courtesy of Ida Portella Business and Travel Services.

“We had a big expansion at the shed recently, so this money will be really important in helping us provide members greater access to assets and equipment so they can participate in projects,” Mareeba Men’s Shed President Kent Duffield said.

“We visited quite a few businesses around town seeking their support, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the five businesses who came on board – it means a lot to the Men’s Shed.”

The winner of the draw was Cairns Hardware, who will be graciously donating their winnings to the Donald family, whose son Joey was diagnosed with a severe brain injury after a horror horse fall last year.

“He’s now down in Brisbane receiving treatment, and his family is having to fly back and forth from their home in Yungaburra,” Tableland Hardware Mareeba Assistant Manager Carlie Lawrance said.

“We thought this would be a great opportunity to help out where we can and ease some of the burden on the family.

“We like to give back to the community and we’re proud to be able to give this to such a worthy cause.”
