Mareeba Meals on Wheels has received a new walk in freezer valued at $24,257 courtesy of a Mount Emerald Community Benefit Fund.

The fund is available to not-for-profit groups, associations and clubs that make a positive difference to the local community, with $200,000 up for grabs every year.

The new freezer single system was installed by Shane Thorpe Refrigeration and will replace their old, inefficient three freezer system.

Receiving the grant has allowed Meals on Wheels Mareeba to improve their storage capacity for frozen and fresh products as well as increasing their capacity to prepare and store donated fresh produce from the local community.

Meals on Wheels receives many donations of fresh foods from locals every year, and with the old equipment it had a much shorter lifespan.

Now with this new and improved freezer, Meals on Wheels can better preserve all of the fresh fruit and vegetables donated and put them to use.
