WITH school holidays kicking off last week kids got the chance to get into the hall and practice some basketball skills with the Holiday Hoops Program run by Mulungu Aboriginal Health Service.

Hosted on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week, the Holiday Hoops Program teaches kids simple basketball skills that can be practiced and implemented from a local park game, to competition games.

Mulungu Corporate Services Manager Samantha Dooley said that this program not only keeps kids active and entertained but also helps them understand the importance of healthy living.

“We are using this holiday program to promote and provide health messaging through healthy eating, being sugar free, keeping active and the importance of a regular visit to your local aboriginal medical service,” she said.

“As we know during school holidays kids can become bored, less active and more likely to eat unhealthy food.

“The program is about motivating our children to rethink what we put into our bodies and to build our community awareness on health issues.”
