A BATTING masterclass by Paul Nasser entertained the Loder Park faithful and gives Atherton some hope in the 2-day Cricket Far North match against Norths.

Atherton won the toss on Saturday and elected to bat on what appeared to be a good batting deck and a fast outfield.

Norths struck early when Chris Adams feathered one to the keeper. Youngster Mason Blaney put a 53 run partnership on as Nasser posted 50 off 48 balls.

A middle order collapse saw Atherton in a lot of trouble at 7-104 before Nasser and Caleb Constant steadied the ship in a valuable 135 run partnership.

A classic cover drive 4 saw Nasser notch up 100 on the last ball before Tea. Paul Nasser went on to carry his bat in a classic innings 177 not out at stumps.

At 9-269 Atherton will need to decide whether they carryon batting or declare to give themselves a chance at bowling Norths out next week to get a result after a review of the new rules allows for a draw in the 2-day matches.

Match in progress – Atherton 9-269 (P Nasser 177*, C Constant 38, T Boorman 17).
