People around the country are divided and fighting over a pack of toilet paper due to COVID-19, Biboohra locals Victoria and Simon Crosby witnessed such a fight and decided to do whatever they could to assist those in need.

The Hungry Pug Cafe owners have lived in Biboohra for 33 years and boast a healthy connection and sense of community spirit.

What started out a selfless act born out of a want to help others sprung into an infectious movement which saw not only them but others do what they could for each other.

“You could feel the tension in the shop and almost every time we went we would see somebody getting abused,” Victoria said.

“We decided to send up something to put a smile on their face.

“We didn’t expect it to snowball into what is happening now.”

After that first kind hearted donation both Simon and Victoria started doing more and more for the community.

From sending emergency lunches to Mareeba State School all the way to giving out free food and sweets after a catering event was cancelled.

“It’s all about putting a smile on someone's face,” Simon said.

“No one ever went out of business by being too nice.

“We try and do something everyday to brighten someone's day.”

Both Simon and Victoria view this as a way to help repay the support and kindness that the Mareeba community has shown them and they will continue to do all they can to brighten the spirits of the community.
