The 70th annual Mareeba Rodeo begins

The biggest event of the year for Mareeba takes place this weekend at Kerribee Park and this year’s Rodeo is extra special as it marks the 70th anniversary of the iconic event.

HOLD onto your hats ladies and gents! The biggest event of the year for Mareeba takes place this weekend at Kerribee Park and this year’s Rodeo is extra special as it marks the 70th anniversary of the iconic event.

With a heady mix of bucking bulls and horses, utes, woodchops, fairy floss, show bags, rides and much, much more – the two day action packed event is one not to miss.

With nearly 14,000 people expected through the gates, this year’s rodeo will be bigger and better than ever with all the attractions in the arena on the big screen allowing everyone to see the action up close and personal.

The new grandstand seating has also been completed and the new PA system will have the crowds pumping.

As usual, Friday night’s Downtown Parade will get the party started, followed by two full days of rodeo action and a whole heap of fun.

With a history dating back to 1949, the event has become a local icon with people travelling from all over the State to experience it; and with some of the country’s best competitors lining up to compete, you can be assured that non-stop action is set to storm Kerribee Park’s arena.

From 7.30am on both Saturday and Sunday, there is a full program of action including bull riding, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, ladies and junior events, plus more.

Saturday night will feature the crowd pleasing ‘Battle of the States’ where Queensland and NSW teams will go head to head to claim the bragging rights.

Teams compete in Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc, Bareback, Steer Wrestling, and Barrel Racing from 7.30pm.

Time event competitors compete side by side – so you can cheer on your team and see who wins the match-up.

When the action in the ring slows down for a break, take a wander out of the arena to the ag show exhibits, rides and displays on offer.

With so much to see and do at this massive local event – make sure you come on out and experience one of the best rodeo’s in the country right here in our backyard. – If you get in the saddle, be ready for the ride.
