THE Rotary club of Atherton has been donated an important piece of Tableland history in the form of a WWII map of the Kairi/Tinaroo region.

The map was kindly donated by Jill, Phillip and David Martin, whose family has held the map since the battalion stationed there was deployed during the war.

The Martin family decided to donate the map to Atherton Rotary due to their important role in the restoration of the Rocky Creed Igloo where the map was handed over on Friday.

Mapee camp was the name of the camp where the solders stayed in the Kairi/Tinaroo region.

A lot of the area today has been taken over by Tinaroo Dam and is now underwater.

Brian McLaren from Atherton Rotary was on hand to receive the map along with John Hardy of the Rocky Creek War Memorial Park Advisory Committee.
