Yungaburra local wins second prize

Trend Micro, a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, has announced the winners of its annual what’s Your Story? Competition, which encourages Australian and New Zealand children aged 8-12 to create a poster which depicts the positive side of the Internet and how to be cyber wise. Amongst this years’ winners was Stella Brown from Yungaburra, who won second prize in Australia for her impressive understanding and execution of what it means to be a good digital citizen.

Trend Micro and Life Education Australia recently found that only just over a third (37.3 percent) of Australian parents believe that the Internet can be a positive place for children to socialise. The What’s Your Story? Competition – in its sixth year – is an initiative by Trend Micro to help improve this and encourage children to talk to their parents and friends about the positive things they see in using the Internet, social networks and technology devices.

“The What’s Your Story? Competition helps children pay attention to what’s happening in the media and on the Internet and express what they think it means to be a responsible and respectful digital citizen,” said Tim Falinski, Managing Director, Consumer, APAC, Trend Micro. “This opens the door for parents to have discussions with their kids and reframe some of the negative connotations associated with Internet safety.”

“We are amazed at the quality of the entries each year, thank everyone who entered the competition and especially congratulate the winners for their creativity and understanding of the topic.”

There were 168 entries this year across Australia and New Zealand. Following the public determining ten finalists in each country, an industry judging panel decided three winners per country based on how creatively they delivered their message, how appropriate the topic was, and how persuasive and clear their idea of what it means to be a good digital citizen was. The schools of the winning children were also awarded with prizes.
