President Brendan Kent said the mural had been brought to life by artist Ross Franzi of Black Cockatoo Gallery. He said the featured aircraft, a Bristol Beaufort, was the first plane to land at the Mareeba airfield in 1942.

Present at the unveiling was John Jennings who was at the airfield as a boy and witnessed the plane land.

“We are also very grateful for the support provided by Mareeba Shire Council, the the Regional Arts Development Fund, Dulux, Weld NQ, and Capral, whose contributions helped make this project possible.”
