Fresh look Field days for Townsville in April

TOWNSVILLE'S field days are on again, but with a fresh new management team, a new location and a fresh outlook.

Tickets are now on sale for the Rotary North Queensland Field Days which will be run over Thursday 7 and Friday 8 April at Reid Park, Townsville.

Attracting visitors from all over Queensland and Australia, Townsville's premier event will kick off at 9am Thursday and will provide 2 action packed days through until 4.30pm Friday.

Daily guest presentations, live product displays and demonstrations, technology, innovation and educational information sessions and endless networking opportunities will be on offer.

Taken over by Rotary this year, organisation Chairman, Graham Ede, said the management committee collectively represented the Rotary clubs of Townsville and the Burdekin and promised to showcase the best the two regions had to offer.

"Planning of these field days began 24 months ago when we were offered the opportunity to reinvigorate this event, which has played such an important role in the north's commercial and agricultural development over its 55 year life span" he said.

Guest speaker, Professor James Scott, head of Mental Health at the QIMP Berghofer Medical Research Institute will share how he survived being lost for 43 terrifying days without food in the frozen Himalayan mountains.

Daily presentations on a diverse range of topics will feature a drone demonstration on spraying and spreading, a bobcat skill show and discussion on how to live off grid, the future of agriculture, reducing operating costs through energy management and the potential of sugar cane.

Government and industry departments such Queensland Rural Industry Development Authority, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, TAFE Qld, the Department of Resources, Agforce, Sugar Research Australia, Telstra and the QITE Harvest Trail Services will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice.

Heading up the trade Exhibitors across best practice farming and agribusiness and the myriad of associated support industries will be event partners, Gough Plastics, Fuchs Lubricants and Hercules Loaders as well as boarding schools and a variety of eateries and bars.

Businesses selling everything agricultural from tools, trailers, motorcycles, cattle feed, pumps, irrigation and drilling needs, sheds, smoke alarms, cattle handling equipment, trucks, forklifts, welding products, smoke alarms, health products, leather craft, jewellery and art items, plus many other items will be on-site.

The committee hopes this display will create a hub of information exchange resulting in countless sales, deals and contract signings. Free public parking will be available and the field days will operate within the guidelines provided by Queensland Health to reduce Covid-19 risk to the public.
