Purple reigns over Herberton
HERBERTON is turning purple for the annual Jacaranda Festival to be staged this weekend.

Grace Street will close to traffic on Saturday for festivalgoers to enjoy live music, entertainment, food vans and market stalls as part of the festival which embraces everything purple.
Locals are being encouraged to dress in purple as part of a competition which will award prizes to Best Dressed Man, Woman, Girl and Boy. Judging will take place at 12-12.30pm on the main stage in Grace Street on Saturday.
All the fun of the festival kicks off at 10am on Saturday, with rides on the Peckett Steam Train available, the Tin Town Markets to explore, or you can wander through the Herberton Mining Centre to discover the town’s past.
As part of the festivities, the Herberton Historic Railway Station will be celebrating their 115th birthday as well as the 100th anniversary of the Peckett Steam locomotive on Sunday.
The QCWA Atherton Tablelands Division and the QCWA Herberton Branch will be a big part of this year’s Jacaranda Festival, with their Country Kitchens Team showcasing health and nutrition, giving out yummy taste testers, and free recipe cards as well as offering some fun interactive games for the kids.
The QCWA Herberton Branch will be offering Jacaranda Devonshire Teas, while the Atherton Tablelands Division will have some great raffles. The QCWA ladies will be located in the Herberton Hall on Saturday.
Another highlight of the festival will be a visit to Roaming Wild who will be bringing their menagerie of beaks, scales, teeth and feathers. Patrons will be able to get up close and personal to all these creatures and get some photos to prove it.
