Barron breaks Mareeba cricket’s winning streak

MAREEBA Third Grade’s unbeaten winning streak has come to an abrupt end after facing off against Barron on Sunday in Trinity Beach.

The home side lost the toss and was sent out into the fi eld as Mareeba looked to put up a decent score against their division rivals. 

The Barron bowlers wasted no time quickly going about their business dismissing the top order as Mareeba failed to fi nd their feet, Mareeba were all out for 73 in the 36th over. 

Only two Mareeba batsmen managed to get into double figures as the rest succumbed to Barron’s bowling. 

When it was Barron’s turn to wack on the pads, they made it clear they were here to win with one of their openers putting up a score just shy of a half century. 

Barron passed Mareeba’s score just four wickets down and only 15.4 overs into their allotted overs, awarding two bonus points pushing Barron in front as they overtake Mareeba at the top of the ladder. 

Mareeba Fourths didn’t fare much better as they played Barron in Trinity Beach on Saturday despite a heroic half century by youngster Will Hanlon. 

After being sent into bat Mareeba looked dangerous with young Will putting up 65 runs off just 75 balls in his number three position. 

The top order looked strong, but the rest of the order failed to keep its eff orts going but Mareeba managed to put up a decent score of 134 after their allotted overs. 

Barron’s top order looked even stronger than Mareeba as they only needed four batsman to chase down the total set by Mareeba in 22.2 overs. 

Cricket will now take a break over the Christmas holidays as they gear up to return in the new year.
