THE Ivanhoes Knights have delivered a grinding 16-12 win over the Atherton Roosters in their Cairns District Rugby League first grade premiership match played at Smithfield on Sunday.

It was a physical confrontation between two teams that defended well with Ivanhoes coming from behind to nail their victory at the 70th minute. Atherton led 12-0 midway through the first session after tries to Ty Grogan and Nathan Curcio.

Ivanhoes replied with two unconverted tries after finding the Roosters defence short out wide and it was the Roosters leading 12-8 for the halftime break.

The restart saw the Roosters involved in a couple controversial rulings that could of helped them put their stamp on the match as they pressured the Ivanhoes line.

An Ivanhoes try at the 55th minute locked the score up at 12 all and this looked to lift the homesides energy. A well placed kick and a strong chase resulted in the Ivanhoes winning try.

The Roosters under 18 side remain well in the finals race after defeating ladder leaders Ivanhoes 38-20. Ivanhoes won the reserve grade 60-4 and the ladies game 24-4. This Saturday the Roosters play in Mossman
