DAVIES Park will be the place to be this Saturday night as the Mareeba Gladiators and Atherton Roosters go head-to-head in their first matchup on the CDRL calendar, the first game in the Tableland Cup.

With Mareeba coming off a loss and the Roosters on a high from their first win the game is not to be missed as both teams look to make a statement come Saturday night.

The town rivals faced each other early in the season for a trial match, which ended in a draw.

Mareeba Gladiators captain coach Trent Barnard said that he was looking forward to the upcoming match.

“Atherton is a good side and its always full on come derby time,” he said.

“I know all these boys get up for it and I’m still not fully used to it.

“It’s two Tablelands sides going at it and last time the crowd was massive so I can’t imagine what it will be like this time.”

Opposition captain Jermaine Pedro is excited for the upcoming match and expects some fierce competition.

“We’re hoping to draw confidence out of our win last week, we still have things to work on but now we’re a lot more confident,” he said.

“It’s always pretty hostile playing in Mareeba the crowd really get behind their team.

“Out on the field it doesn’t matter where both teams are coming on the ladder it’s on from kick off, and they just come out and try and belt you.”

Don’t miss the chance to see the town rivals going head-to-head this weekend at Davies Park
