THE SPRING racing season officially kicked off across the region in Mareeba on Saturday with racegoers enjoying a great day of racing, fashion and fun at the Annuals race day.

With perfect weather, the country race day saw racegoers return to the Mareeba Turf Club to socialise off track and enjoy live racing action on track.

The five race card was a highlight with experienced jockey Shane Pawsey having the most successful day on track winning three out of the five races.

The QTIS Maiden Plate started the race card with Pawsey winning on You Dreamt What.

In race two of the day, the Mareeba Bracelet Benchmark, Lacey Morrison stormed home on Fluttering Pawsey then again returned to win race three, the Class B Handicap on Macipenko and race four on Forgiato.

The last race of the day, the Mareeba Cup was won by He's Wow Class ridden by Scott Sheargold.

Racing continues this weekend with the Cairns Amateurs Racing Carnival and will return the Tablelands on Saturday, September 18 with the Atherton Annuals.
