Sporting groups receive funding

NEW facilities and equipment are on the horizon for three separate Tableland’s sporting organisations after getting a hand in the Gambling Community Benefit Fund pot.

Both the Atherton BMX Club and the Malanda Gymnastics Club were given $35,000 to upgrade track lights and purchase a new spring floor and equipment respectfully.

The current lights on the Atherton BMX Club track were initially installed six years ago, newer, and more efficient lights are planned to be installed to increase safety on the track.

Currently when riding on Friday evenings there are some dark spots in the track so the club has decided to rectify this by installing new lighting.

Meanwhile the Mareeba Junior Rugby League Club will be using their $25,260 from the fund to recondition the four fields used for junior league.

Works are suspected to be completed by the end of January.
