ATHERTON 1st Grade got off to the best possible start taking maximum points in their Cricket Far North 40-over match against Cassowary Coast at Loder Park on Saturday.

Sent in to bat by Cassowary, Chris Adams and Dan Parnell got Atherton off to a great start with a 58 run opening partnership.

Paul Nasser and Tom Boorman followed suit piling on 111 runs off 94 balls, both notching up 50's in the partnership.

Atherton lost a few middle order wickets cheaply but Nasser showed his usual grit and settled in, posting a century off 78 balls in another great partnership of 93 with Pete Sceresini.

The pair closed the innings 6-294 with Paul Nasser the hometown hero once again, unbeaten on 139 with 7 fours and 11 sixes.

Atherton's bowlers were tidy, with Reggie Wenham picking up the big wicket of Cassowary's captain early to dampen the visitors spirits.

Spinners Tom Boorman, Dan Parnell and youngster Mason Blaney finished the job and after some resistance Atherton were able to claim victory in the 33rd over dismissing Cassowary for 115 runs.

Next match is Atherton v Rovers at Griffiths Park this Saturday, October 17. Result: Atherton 6-294 (P Nasser 139*, T Boorman 51, C Adams 40) Def. Cassowary Coast 115 (T Boorman 3-6, D Parnell 3-24, M Blaney 2-14)
