IT’S happy days as the Mareeba Bulls have now won two on the trot in a push for a top four finish in the FNQ Football League.

With five regular team members absent for their match against the Comets on Saturday night at Borzi Park, the makeshift team put on a master class performance to seal a comfortable 3-0 win.

An early penalty, put away by Jamie Carroll, set the scene and the youngsters brought up from the reserve and youth side gained confidence for the remainder of the match.

Even though the comets were quicker, more talented, player for player, the young side under the guidance of Jamie Carrol, Kane Alderton and Robert Pendenza rose to the occasion and cancelled out the Comets’ usual dominance.

When Robert Pendenza scored the second deep into the first half belief began to set in and the young bulls played even better.

The Comets struggled in front of goal with Jack Centofanti pulling of some great saves to keep a clean sheet.

Milan Quintieri sealed the game with a blinding shot from outside the area before full time much to the delight of the vocal supporters.

Coach Perry was ecstatic with the result.

“The young boys had an opportunity tonight and they took it well, they all contributed to the win,” he said.

“Some of these boys have played two games today; their success creates some depth in the team which we need as we get closer to the finals.

“The Bulls’ song will be sung with some enthusiasm tonight, some of them don’t know the words yet, but they’re learning.”

In other matches the under 18’s had a solid win and are gaining momentum with each game as they won 3-1.

The premier Ladies had a slender loss to Edge Hill United with the final score 2-1 and the reserves continued their dominance with a 6-0 thrashing of the Comets.

The Bulls reserves, ladies and youth play at home again this Sunday against JCU Strikers.
