The Atherton Tableland Hockey Association is hosting a come and try day on this Saturday, February 22.

Held at Loder Park and starting at 10am the come and try day is a chance for newcomers to the sport or old players looking to get back on the green to brush up on their skills leading into the upcoming season.

A walking hockey exhibition will be held at 10:30am and will feature some players from some disability organisations on the Tablelands.

Walking Hockey was introduced last year as an alternative to regular hockey, players cannot run, it is a shorter format of the game so less stress is put upon the players; walking hockey is open to all ages and skill levels.

Atherton Tablelands Hockey Association Ambassador Hayley Fullgrabe is encouraging new and existing players to come along and enjoy the day.

“Hockey is a great sport that the whole family can enjoy,” she said.

“It’s a great opportunity to get fit and have fun.

“It would be great to see as many people there as possible, the more the merrier.”

This is not a sign on day, if you’re interested in signing up for the upcoming season;  registrations must be completed online at https://www.athertonhockey.com.au/
