HAVING fielded plenty of advice during the week, and after much deliberation, Atherton captain Tommy Boorman made a last minute decision to bat-on on day two of the 2-day Cricket Far North match against Norths on Saturday.

Paul Nasser returned to the crease 177* in a last wicket stand with Dylan Pettingill and grabbed his opportunity by the horns, smacking the first ball of the day for 4.

With the crowd riding every delivery, Nasser and Pettingill soaked up the pressure, batting confidently to add 30 runs to the total off five overs. Paul repaid his team’s faith and brought the house down hitting a 6 to reach his double-ton off the last ball of the 83rd over.

Atherton declared their innings 9-299.

Atherton took to the field pumped by the efforts of Nasser and were off to a great start when Seppe Barletta picked up the Captain's wicket for none in the first over.

Seppe struck again in his second over knocking the stumps over to have Norths 2-8. Norths dug in for a bit until Dylan Pettingill trapped their dangerman and broke an 80 run partnership, followed by a wicket for Tommy Boorman to see the top order off.

Tommy continued his miserly bowling taking another two wickets and Michael Salerno picked up 4 wickets late in his second spell to dismiss Norths for 182.

Atherton claimed a first innings win by 117 runs and elected to bat for the final hour of play, closing the match 6-80 in their second innings dig.

It is believed Paul Nasser can lay claim to the first double-ton by an Atherton 1st Grade player at home, and sits 2nd behind Eddie Rosa for highest scores from and Atherton 1st Grade player in the modern era.

Paul's stats are 203 not out off 253 balls; batting time 300 minutes / 83 overs; 25 Fours, 1 Six; scored 40 runs in the last wicket partnership of 55 before the declaration; 62% of the team's total runs.

Result – Atherton 9-299 Dec. (P Nasser 203*, C Constant 38, T Boorman 17) Def. Norths 182 (M Salerno 4-83, T Boorman 3-31, S Barletta 2-28, D Pettingill 1-6); 2nd Innings Atherton 6-80 (M Salerno 31, T Boorman 26, C Constant 13)

Atherton are at home to Cassowary Coast in a 2-day match 7 and 14 December.
