Mareeba local and St Stephen’s Catholic College student Erik Wallace has continued his stellar form after winning the Top Stars category at Toowoomba recently.

Erik’s performance was made all the more impressive as he convincingly beat the lap record, doing so in a lightning quick 16.766 seconds. Erik’s record marked the first time a junior had made the 16 second bracket, topping off what was a fantastic tournament for the 15 year-old who went undefeated in seven races.

Erik said he was stoked to have won the Top Stars division. “We have a great reliable car and crew so we were quietly confident heading into the two-day meet,” he said. “There were 20 competitors all of whom race weekly at top tracks with large car numbers, so it was a tough field.”

Erik said that the lap record came as a great surprise and noted that he and his team weren’t expecting to get into the 16 second bracket – and that will be the sort of performance he will be hoping to emulate when he races at the Victorian State Titles at Hamilton Speedway later this month.

“Hamilton will be tough as the best of the best drivers will be there competing and Titles always add a higher level of pressure,” he said. “We just have to prepare well and we will just take every heat race as it comes and hope for good draws and an opportunity to make it to the final in a decent starting position.”

Erik also took time to thank those who have contributed significantly to his continued success. I wouldn’t be able to race without the support of my family and my amazing sponsors in South-East Queensland,” he said. “A special thank you goes to Performax International and the Smith Family.”
