“This year’s theme ‘Be Brave. Make Change’ challenges us to tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can make change for the benefit of all Australians,” he said. “It’s a time that we all learn about and understand our shared histories, cultures, and achievements. “Our council is committed to playing a critical role, in partnership with our community, in establishing a clear roadmap towards a reconciled, just and equitable region.”

As part of its commitment to reconciliation, council has a Reconciliation Action Advisory Committee which is chaired by Cr Bernie Wilce and consists of representatives from the Southern Tableland Traditional Owners Alliance and staff.

“Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan provides us with a clear direction to continue to advance reconciliation in the region and we’re keen to work with businesses and organisations on their own RAP journey,” Mayor Marti said. “Join in the NRW events being held around the region including Jirrbal Aboriginal Corporation’s Mount Garnet Family Fun Day on Saturday 28 May, Better Together’s NRW Exhibition and activities on Wednesday 1 June, and our First Nations Seniors’ Lunch on Friday 27 May.”

For more information, go to the events calendar at www.trc.qld.gov.au where organisations can add their own events.
