THE Atherton Tablelands Caledonian Society will bring out the kilts and bagpipes in celebration of “The Year of Scotland in Australia Ceilidh” later this month.

There is an old saying that there are only two types of people in the world, Scots and people that want to be Scots – Whichever you are, the local Society hope you join them in celebrating all things Scottish.

The annual event is back on again after being postponed last year due to COVID and is set to see some of the region's Scots coming together for the evening.

A Celildh, a gaelic term for a traditional social event, will celebrate all things Scottish including the United Tablelands Pipe Band and the Black Bear duo Iian McKenzie on accordion and Emma Nixon on fiddle.

Other performers include bass-baritonist Brain Bissset and local musician group High Strung. A feast of Scottish delicacies will be served, including the iconic haggis alongside the City of Cairns Highland and Irish Dancers performing their traditional dances.

To add to the evening of fabulous entertainment, tickets also include a delicious two course meal including haggis.

Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6pm start on Saturday, July 31 at the Mareeba PCYC Hall. Adults are $50 and children $10 with bookings essential as no tickets will be available at the door.

Tickets can be purchased online via www.trybooking. com/eventlist/athertontablelandcaledoniansociety. For more information please contact Norma on 0417 541 126.
