ONE of the region’s most spectacular natural attractions is set to be depicted and recreated on a back wall of Mareeba’s Heritage Museum and Visitor Info Centre.

In somewhat of a spruce up or minor facelift the centre’s main back deck wall, near where visitors stop to have a coffee or some lunch will be emblazoned with the tranquil painted portrait of Emerald Creek Falls.

So long a place for locals and visitors alike to cool off in the hot summer months the falls will be painted by award winning Kuranda artist Tom Cosic.

The works started on August 20 and were expected to take roughly 10 days to complete.

“The mural is going to cover the whole back wall, it’s quite extensive, it will roughly be four metres long, by around five metres high,” centre manager Janet Greenwood explained.

“What we find at the centre is that quite a few tourists visit our area in hire cars and as a result are unable to take their vehicles off road and on to dirt to see the falls.

“So we’ve decided to recreate the falls for visitors and tourists alike here so they can stop and admire a beautifully painted life size depiction of the falls.

“It’s going to look fantastic, it will be a nice addition to the centre and another way to promote the amazing attractions of our region.”
