A TABLELANDS homeowner has issued a timely warning to fellow landlords offering private rentals - properly screen your incoming tenants or potentially encounter the same unwanted scenario she has experienced over the past few weeks.

The landlord who spoke toThe Express on condition of anonymity said she was “too trusting” and should have spent more time checking rental references after a tenant went rogue and left the homeowner with piles of filthy rubbish and one very sizeable headache upon vacating the property.

The homeowner has implored others to be wary of similar situations.

“The tenant left so much rubbish around the place we had to get skips to put it all in,” the distressed homeowner said.

“Aside from that, there were locks on security doors that were broken.

“I want to get it out there and remind others’ to be very thorough in their rental checks to ensure they get the right person to move in.

"You never know who you are allowing to move into a rental property.

“At the moment there are so many people looking for rentals around the Tablelands so you try and do the right thing and help people, but things like this make you think twice.”
