In a coordinated effort from Tablelands Detectives, uniformed police and the Cairns Dog Squad, Potter was apprehended at an Ascham Street address.

Police had frequented the property on previous occasions but had never found Potter.

After receiving considerable credible information, police were able to make the arrest after a 12 year man hunt.

Upon being arrested, Potter allegedly gave a false name to police however after biometric testing, his identity was confirmed.

He is wanted on charges of drug trafficking and three counts of conspiracy to murder, all allegedly taking place in 2008.

After allegedly failing to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court in 2010, Potter has been on the run and allegedly evaded police in Tully in the same year.

Investigations are still ongoing to determine if anyone was involved in harbouring Potter - no one else is in custody at this time.

The 64 year old was due to appear before Mareeba Magistrates Court today where police hope to extradite him back to Victoria.
