“I am excited to see who will be nominated for an Australia Day Award in 2023,” she said, announcing that nominations are now open.

“By recognising individuals and groups for their contribution to our communities, we create role models and continue to foster the incredible culture of volunteerism and giving that has long existed throughout the Mareeba Shire.”

2022 Citizen of the Year Norma Moloney is also urging residents to nominate their local hero.

“I am so proud to have received the award for Citizen of the Year in 2022,” she said.

“Volunteers don't do it for the kudos, but it was a wonderful honour to be recognised.”

Residents can submit nominations online through council's website, or by contacting Customer Service Centres in Mareeba and Kuranda.

Nomination forms can be submitted online or re-turned to the Customer Service Centres. Nominations close at 3pm on 6 December 2022.
