55 charges from teenagers’ crime spree

THREE teenage boys have been charged with a total of 55 property offences that occurred across Atherton and Mareeba late last month.

Police allege that the three boys attended an Atherton property on 24 July and gained entry to a garage attached to the home before leaving and returning hours later.

Police say that on their second visit, the boys were startled by residents and they ran from the scene.

Three days later, a 15-year-old Mareeba boy involved in the incident was located at a Mareeba address. He was charged with 21 offences including seven counts of enter dwelling and commit (an indictable offence), five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and three counts of enter premises and commit.

He is due to appear at the Mareeba Children’s Court on 18 August.

Following the first arrest, police then located and arrested two 14-year-old Mareeba boys.

One of the teenagers was charged with 19 offences including five counts of enter dwelling and commit, three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and two counts of enter premises and commit.

The other boy was charged with 15 property offences including five counts of enter premises and commit and two counts each of enter dwelling with intent, enter dwelling and commit, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and enter premises and commit.

They were both due to appear at the Mareeba Children’s Court last Wednesday.
